Walkers raised nearly $13,000 for Alpha-1 Research

NEW YORK, NY – About 130 Alphas friends and family from New York, New Jersey and the surrounding area teamed up with the Alpha-1 Foundation, the James P. Mara Center for Lung Disease at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, and the NY-NJ Alpha-1 Support Group and raised nearly $13,000 for Alpha-1 research during the George Washington Bridge Walk May 8.

This was the third year in a row that walkers came together to raise awareness and funds for Alpha-1 research. Last year, 115 Alphas, friends and families participated in the walk

The walk started on the Fort Lee, NJ, side of the bridge and was an at-your-own-pace walk across to the Manhattan side (just under a mile and a half). Walkers then turned around and went back.

Some walkers chose to avoid the traffic and take part in the Fort Lee Historic Park Walk, a park just south of the bridge that has wonderful scenery. The park walk was about half a mile, including a hill.

Walkers of all ages came out to “walk for a cure”
