Team Alpha-1 plans its annual autumn "Escape to the Cape" bike trek to raise money for Alpha-1 research
The Alpha-1 Foundation’s Team Alpha-1 is once again traveling to Cape Cod to promote awareness and raise money for research on Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency during the American Lung Association of Massachusetts’ annual Autumn Bike Trek Sept. 12-14.
Cape Cod, or just “the Cape,” is the famous arm-shaped peninsula projecting into the Atlantic Ocean on the coast of Massachusetts. Participants in this “at-your-own pace” event, some of whom routinely ride with supplemental oxygen bottles carried on their bikes, have their choice of a two-day, 105-mile bike trek or three days and 160 miles along the Cape’s coast from Plymouth to Provincetown at the Cape’s northern tip.
The trek is fondly referred to by its participants as the “Escape to the Cape.”
Among the entries this year are “Team Alpha-1/Twin Power,” consisting of Fred Walsh, Massachusetts AlphaNet coordinator, and Alpha-1 Foundation President John Walsh. “We’re going to show what twins can do when they combine efforts,” said Fred. “I’m taking myself to a new level this year by joining my brother in this great traditional event for Alpha-1 awareness and funding research,” said John.
