Team Alpha-1 again "Escapes to the Cape" this weekend to promote awareness and raise funds for Alpha-1 research
Team Alpha-1 is ready to “Escape to the Cape” again.
The team will promote awareness and raise money for research on Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1, sometimes called “genetic COPD”) during the American Lung Association of Massachusetts’ 25th annual Autumn Bike Trek this Friday through Sunday, Oct. 2-4.
Returning this year will be the Team Alpha-1/Twin Power team of Fred and John Walsh. Fred is the AlphaNet coordinator for Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, and John is the President & CEO of the Alpha-1 Foundation.

“We’re dedicating all contributions to Twin Power this year in honor of our dad, Jack Walsh, to launch the Coach’s Club,” said John Walsh. “He was our mentor, coach, and friend for so long and we will miss him terribly. He lived life to its fullest and touched many during his 94-year journey. All proceeds will go to the Alpha-1 Foundation for funding research to find a cure, and no amount is too small.”
Jack “Coach” Walsh died Sept. 2 at age 94.
Another rider back this year will be Foundation Clinical Director Robert A. Sandhaus, MD, who says on his website Firstgiving page, “Last year was a blast! I’m going to do my best again this year! In spite of great offers from Lance Armstrong’s team, I’ve decided to stay with Team Alpha-1.”
The team will include riders from New England, Colorado, Florida and New Jersey.
