Talecris receives "Art of Industry Partnership Award" for work with Alpha-1 community, advancing understanding and treatment of genetic condition
WASHINGTON—Talecris Biotherapeutics was honored with “The Art of Industry Partnership Award” at the annual conference of the Genetic Alliance, a nonprofit health advocacy organization, over the weekend.
Alpha-1 Foundation President and CEO John Walsh, in presenting the award, said Talecris “created a patient-centered culture and set the standard by example for the art of industry partnership.”
“Talecris has continuously supported the growth of the community network of support groups, development of education materials and each educational conference since 1991,” Walsh said.

“Talecris has consistently involved consumer advisors including the Alpha-1 Foundation, AlphaNet and the patient-based Alpha-1 Association,” Walsh said.
Walsh praised Talecris for “investing millions in developing the next generation of augmentation therapy—aerosolized AAt—considered by our scientific leadership as a therapeutic solution to Alpha-1-related lung disease.”
Lawrence Stern, Talecris chairman and CEO, accepted the award for the company.
Talecris, the manufacturer of the Alpha-1 augmentation therapy Prolastin, was nominated for the award by the Alpha-1 Foundation.
Jamie Lamson, Alpha-1 Foundation research coordinator, gave a presentation on “The Alpha-1 Newborn Screening Experience” at the Genetic Alliance conference.
