Talecris, other pharmaceutical firms donate to Haiti relief

WASHINGTON — US pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies have provided more than $25 million in medicines, medical supplies and cash to relief efforts in Haiti since the recent catastrophic earthquake.
Companies making donations include Talecris Biotherapeutics, Abbott, Amgen, Astellas Pharma US, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Daiichi Sankyo, Eisa, Endo Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithKline, Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly, Lundbeck, Merck, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Novo Nordisk, Otsuka America, Pfizer, Purdue Pharma, Sanofi-Aventi, and Takeda Pharmaceuticals.
Billy Tauzin, president and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) said: “The day the news broke about the tragedy in Haiti, America’s biopharmaceutical companies got to work – coordinating efforts with relief organizations and health care groups already on the ground – making sure everything from simple antibiotic creams to critical medicines were made accessible to victims.”
The $25 million total does not include the contributions of PhRMA member company employees and the many companies committed to matching the pledges of their workers.
