Taking to the sky for Alpha-1 awareness
SALEM, IN—Have you ever looked up at a small plane and thought about what it would be like to see the countryside from up there? If you have, then talk to John Grammer.
Grammer will offer plane rides to fellow Alphas in his CGS Aviation Hawk Classic II light sport aircraft at a Kentuckiana Alpha-1 Support Group Event Aug 23.
The Salem Municipal Airportirport will celebrate Aviation Awareness Day from 9 – 5.
Grammer, an experienced pilot, says he struggled to cope with his diagnosis. He was just “sitting around the house, giving up on life” when he realized he could be out enjoying himself. So he thought about the one thing he always dreamed of doing. He learned how to fly an ultralight aircraft. Now, he hopes these motivational plane rides will help inspire other Alphas to follow their own dream.
Alphas can carry on small oxygen containers, with a weight limit of 200-220lbs if needed. Flights will be kept under 4,000 feet.
Aviation Days will include a car show at the racetrack, tandem parachute jumps, ultralight rides, a hot air balloon, the Piper Museum, various static displays and music.
