Sea glass jewelry sale to benefit Alpha-1 research

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL—Get an early start on holiday shopping and help benefit the Alpha-1 Foundation by “shopping for a cure” at the Westminster Academy Christmas Boutique this Friday, Nov. 13, from 7-9 pm, and Saturday, 9-5 pm.

Gina Dotson, artist and founder of Tidal Creations, will be displaying her unique pieces of sea glass jewelry at her booth at Westminster Academy, and will donate 10 percent of her sales to the Alpha-1 Foundation to help raise funds for research to find a cure for Alpha-1.

Sea Glass, also known as Mermaid Tears, start off as litter from discarded bottles and jars and ends up as beautiful pieces of art, washing up on the shores of beaches and lakes all around the world. The frosted glass is created by continuously tumbling in the waves as the tides change. The sand and rocks smooth out the edges and create the pieces of small, soft glass.

Dotson has been collecting sea glass as a hobby for many years. She decided to expand on that hobby by turning the recycled sea glass into artisan crafted jewelry. Her line includes bracelets, necklaces, watches, key chains, paperweights and more.

The event will be held at the Westminster Academy gymnasium, 5601 North Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308.
