"Put Patients First" campaign seeks 3,000 signers in three weeks to petition Congress for better health care

The Campaign to Put Patients First is seeking 3,000 signatures on a petition to Congress to improve health care in the United States.

The Campaign, launched by the National Health Council, hopes to mobilize people with long-term diseases and disabilities to achieve effective and affordable health care.

The campaign aims to present the petitions to Congress when members return from their Easter break, so the petitions need to be gathered in less than three weeks.

Over the next three years, the Council plans to recruit a million people with long-term diseases and disabilities to make their voices heard.

The goals of the campaign are to:

  • Get health care coverage for everyone
  • Curb costs responsibly
  • Make sure everyone has coverage even if they have pre-existing conditions
  • Get rid of lifetime caps that limit the total amount of benefits provided by health insurance
  • Respect people at the end of life.

The National Health Council is made up of more than 100 national health-related organizations, with the Alpha-1 Foundation among the 50 patient advocacy groups who are members.
