Pulmonary rehab, Medicare among topics at Jacksonville Education Day

JACKSONVILLE, FL — John Shook, whose pulmonary rehabilitation group in Celebration, FL, formed a harmonica group calling themselves “The HarmoniKats,” will share the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation and harmonica playing at the Alpha-1 Education Day at the Jacksonville Marriott April 18.

The day is for patients, families and caregivers of those with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

Mark Brantly, MD, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Alpha-1 Research Program at the University of Florida, will lead off with “The Basics of Alpha-1 Lung Disease and Current Research,” and later discuss “Myths and Truisms of Alpha-1.”

Clayton Vandiver, a liaison to SHINE, the state health insurance advice and assistance program for older Floridians, will talk about “Medicare Programs That Serve You.”

Jean Larson, MD, of the University of Florida will discuss Alpha-1 liver disease and Nadine Moody, a certified trainer and fitness instructor, will present some easy ways to get motivated to exercise.
