PA Alpha gives thanks for new lungs

POTTSTOWN, PA — After years of feeling like a fish out of water, Bridget Leddy can take a sigh of relief.

The Royersford woman who wasn’t able to go on cherished family trips to the beach and had to be ever vigilant against common colds, and who was literally left breathless by the genetic lung disease Alpha-1 Antitrypsin, recently found a renewed sense of hope for normal life on the other end of a phone call.

“They called to tell her, it’s the call,” her sister Ellen Wilson explained. “There’s a set of lungs and it’s your turn.”

Wilson explained that her sister had been on a waiting list for a lung transplant for more than a year when she received the call shortly after midnight Nov. 15.
