NORD promotes Rare Disease Day Feb. 28, 2010

The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) is promoting Feb. 28, 2010, as “Rare Disease Day” in the United States.

NORD is a federation of voluntary health organizations dedicated to helping people with rare or “orphan” diseases. The Alpha-1 Foundation is a NORD member.

Rare Disease Day is an international effort to raise awareness of these disorders. In the United States, a rare or “orphan disease” is a disorder affecting fewer than 200,000 people.
