Tuesday is "National FDA Tobacco Legislation Call-in Day"

The American Lung Association has declared Oct. 2 the “National Food and Drug Administration Tobacco Legislation Call-in-Day.” The organization is urging everyone to call their Members of Congress to advocate for regulation of tobacco products by the FDA.

As the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (HR 1108) sits pending before Congress, the House Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing on Oct. 3 on legislation, hoping to impose the following

  1. Restrict tobacco marketing and sales to kids,
  2. Require changes in tobacco products to make them less toxic and less addictive,
  3. Stop tobacco companies from misleading the public about the health consequences of using their products.
  4. These are all common-sense consumer protections that should have been passed a long time ago.
