More than 100 Alphas, friends and family expected to "walk for a cure" May 8 in third annual George Washington Bridge Walk
NEW YORK, NY –Alphas from New York, New Jersey and the area will team up with the Alpha-1 Foundation, the James P. Mara Center for Lung Disease at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, and the NY-NJ Alpha-1 Support Group to raise awareness and money for Alpha-1 research.
The event is the third annual George Washington Bridge Walk May 8, and there’s still time to sign up.
Last year, 115 Alphas, friends and families participated in the walk, raising $17,000. This year, the goal is $25,000. Every dollar will be matched through the Foundation’s Million Dollar Match program, thanks to a grant from Talecris Biotherapeutics.
The walk will start on the Fort Lee, NJ side of the bridge. The at-your-own-pace walk goes across to the Manhattan side, just under a mile and a half. Walkers can then turn around and walk back, or they can choose to take a bus back, from the terminal right at the end of the bridge.
Walkers also have another great choice. They can take part in the Fort Lee Historic Park Walk. The park, just south of the bridge, has wonderful scenery. The park walk is about half a mile, including a hill. Free parking is available and car pools can be arranged.
Participants should meet at Sally Ling’s Chinese Restaurant, 1636 Palisade Ave., Fort Lee, for registration. Please RSVP by May 1.
