Michael Jackson died from prescription sedative, had chronic lung inflammation and other respiratory issues, coroner finds
New York Daily News
The Los Angeles County coroner released autopsy results Wednesday which confirmed that Jackson died of drug intoxication from a powerful prescription sedative.
The report concluded that Jackson was suffering from a host of ailments when he died, including “chronic lung inflammation, respiratory bronchiolitis, diffuse congestion and patchy hemorrhage of right and left lungs.” Bronchiolitis is inflammation of the small airways in the lungs from a viral infection.
In December 2008, a journalist writing a book about Jackson claimed that the singer had lung disease caused by Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, but did not provide any evidence to support the claim.
The coroner’s report said Jackson wore a wig and tattooed makeup, suffered from the skin disease vitiligo, and had multiple drugs in his system when he died. The 51-page report backed the coroner’s determination made last August that Jackson died from “acute propofol intoxication.”
Jackson’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, told investigators he gave the entertainer the powerful sedative to help him sleep. Murray was charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter.
