Maryland man will ride cross-country for a cure

COLUMBIA, MD—Mark Koltz will celebrate his 50th birthday by traveling almost 4,000 miles cross-country on his bicycle to help support the quest to cure lung disease.

His tour will start in Oregon, cross through many of America’s most beautiful areas, ending in New Hampshire. Koltz says it will take 50 days to cross from coast to coast, and he will only take five days to rest.

So why is he doing it?

Koltz is riding to help raise money that will cure lung disease, but he’s also doing it in memory of his father-in-law, Leo Lambert.

Lambert was a dedicated 10-year supporter of the American Lung Association, and Koltz plans to carry on the tradition that meant so much to him. Koltz has met with many Alphas, COPDers and others impacted by lung disease. After connecting with several of them on Facebook, he was inspired to help raise awareness for each of them.

“Thank you for sharing your stories. I ride for my father-in-law. I ride for my dad. I ride for the families impacted with lung disease every day. My ride will help make a difference,” Koltz wrote in his blog.

Koltz hopes to raise $15,000 for the American Lung Association to help make a difference for those who are affected with chronic lung diseases.
