Arizona family, community hold carnival to raise funds for boy who needs service dog to monitor seizures

MARICOPA, AZ—A Maricopa family staged a carnival this past weekend to help raise funds for a badly-needed service animal for their adopted son.

Justin Truett has congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV), cerebral palsy, profound brain damage, microcephaly, and is tube-fed. He is unable to keep himself safe as he is nonverbal and immobile, and relies completely on others for his well being. Something as simple as a blanket covering Justin’s face is life-threatening as he can not move it.

Justin also experiences “silent seizures”, on a frequent basis, that can be deadly if he is not treated in time. He makes no noise when they occur and there is no machine available that can detect them. This has placed a heavy burden on his parents, Tim and Desiree Truett, as someone must constantly monitor Justin.
