Regional Support Group Meeting in NH Aug. 16

LEBANON, NH – Margaret R. Humphries, RN, CCRC, Clinical Research Nurse at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA, will discuss gene therapy at the Alpha-1 Regional Support Group Meeting Saturday, Aug 16.

The dean of the UMass Medical College is Terence Flotte, MD, who has more than 10 years of experience with gene therapy research.

Richard H. Glew, MD, Director of the Division of Infectious Disease at UMass Medical School, will talk about how the lungs react to viral infections.

Ed Brailey, Vice Chair of the Alpha-1 Association, will give an update on the Association, and John Walsh, President and CEO of the Alpha-1 Foundation, will give a Foundation update.

Other speakers include Brian Berk, MD, of the Liver Transplantation program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, on “Future Direction of Liver Transplantation”; and David Harp, teacher of cognitive behavioral science and author of The Three Minute Meditator, will present “Notes on Better Breathing.”

The meeting will also feature a patient panel of clinical trials participants.

The meeting will be held at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

The Alpha-1 Regional Support Group Meeting is supported by unrestricted grants from AlphaNet, Centric Health Resources, CSL Behring and Talecris Biotherapeutics.
