Kamada gets U.S. patent for inhalable alpha-1 therapy

The US Office of Patents and Trademarks has awarded Kamada Ltd. of Israel a patent for the inhalable version of its Alpha 1 Antitrypsin protein replacement therapy to treat Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and other lung diseases.

The patent, “Alpha 1 Antitrypsin for Treating Exacerbation Episodes of Pulmonary Diseases,” is for chronic obstruction pulmonary disease (COPD), which can refer to congenital emphysema and bronchiectasis, as well cystic fibrosis, and influenza.

The patent for inhalable alpha-1 comes six months after Kamada received a US patent for its cleaning and purification process of alpha-1 protein, made from human blood plasma.
