Join more than a hundred Alphas and friends at the fourth annual George Washington bridge walk, May 7

NEW YORK, NY— Walking the George Washington Bridge isn’t as scary as it looks—just ask the Alphas who did it last year — more than 100 of them!
On Saturday, May 7, Alphas, family, and friends in the New York and New Jersey area will team up to participate in the 4th annual George Washington Bridge Walk. All proceeds will go the Alpha-1 Foundation to fund Alpha-1 research programs.
Richard Fallstitch is just one of the many walkers participating. He was diagnosed with Alpha-1 in 1996. And just nine years later, he received a lung AND a liver transplant.
“I still try to stay active and in-touch with the Alpha-1 community. I’ve been aware of the GWB walk, but never attended before,” he said.
This year, he hopes to change that, and help join in to raise awareness and funds for Alpha-1 research.
Rose McClellan is also attending the walk. She’ll be participating as part of “Billy’s Team Alpha,” in memory of her husband, who lost his battle with Alpha-1 at just 62.
“Billy was and always will be my hero, and he endured with incredible strength and dignity the physical assault to his body that Alpha-1 caused. However… it could not and did not take away his amazing spirit, which still survives,” she posted on her Firstgiving page.
Billy’s team is hoping to raise $5,000 for research to help find a cure.
You can help too.
You can donate to the walk, or join another team of walkers, like: Team Golder, Team Carmel, Charlotte Ehrlund-Potter (walking in memory of her dad) or others.

The bridge is about a mile each way. You can also choose an alternative walk, at the nearby Fort Lee Historic Park, which is half a mile, including a hill.
Registration begins at 9:30 am and the walk at 11. Following the walk will be lunch at Sally Ling’s Chinese Restaurant at 12:30 pm.
Please RSVP by Friday, April 29 to LTartell@chpnet.org.
