Iowa Alpha-1 education day August 28 features talks on importance of exercise, getting to positive, advocacy opportunities and More

DES MOINES, IA – Josh Stolpe, a Cardiopulmonary Specialist at Mercy Medical Center, will explain “The Importance of Exercise” at the Alpha-1 Education Day on August 28.

Jeff Wilson, MD, Professor of Medicine at the University of Iowa will lead off with “The Basics of Alpha-1 Lung Disease,” followed by “The Basics of Alpha-1 Liver Disease,” by Dawn Ebach, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatric at the University of Iowa.

Dawn McGee, MS, CGC, Genetic Counselor for the Alpha-1 Association will discuss the “Genetics of Alpha-1,” and Bonnie Chakravorty, Ph.D., MSW, Tennessee State University will talk about “Getting to Positive.”

Marlene Erven, Executive Director of the Alpha-1 Association, will give an update on the Association and Ab Rees, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Alpha-1 Foundation, will give a Foundation update.

The day will close with Tom Corron and Vergene Schmidt discussing “Advocacy Opportunities.”

The event will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Des Moines/Urbandale, 8600 Northpark Dr. Johnston, IA. A free patient dinner sponsored by AlphaNet, Baxter, Centric Health Resources, CSL Behring and Talecris Biotherapeutics Center for Education and Science will be held at 7:30pm Friday, August 27, at the hotel.
