Indiana Alpha remains upbeat as she waits for her new lungs
EATON, IN—To meet Judi Crouch is to be humbled, and amazed.
You’ll have to look long and hard to find someone who has faced more medical adversity than this former truck driver, a woman who has spent more than a year-and-a-half awaiting the double-lung transplant that can restore her health.
But you’ll also have to look long and hard to find someone who seems more full of life.
“You can either lie down and die or you can get up,” said the 54-year-old woman with auburn hair, lively blue eyes and pearly smile. “Life is fun. If you can’t make it fun, gosh. ... When I feel good, hang on world!”
As she spoke, she was sitting in an easy chair in the rural mobile home she shares with her teenage son and primary helper, Zach, and some of the distressed animals they rescue. From her nose, a long clear tube connected her to the oxygen that keeps her alive.
