Grifols names board to oversee integration of business with Talecris Biotherapeutics

WRAL Tech Wire
Research Triangle Park, N.C. — Grifols, which closed on its acquisition of Talecris Biotherapeutics on Friday, named a board of directors to oversee integration of the two company’s operations today. Thomas Glanzmann is the chairman of the board.

U.S. regulators formally approved the $4 billion merger on Thursday, and the deal was consummated on Friday. Talecris is the manufacturer of blood plasma products including Prolastin-C, an infusion therapy for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

Glanzmann, a veteran life science executive, was formerly an executive at Baxter, one of Grifol’s rivals in the blood therapeutics business, and also has been a member of the Grifols board.

Gregory Rich is the chief executive officer. Richard already ran Grifols’ operations in the U.S.

Talecris Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Stern told employees in an e-mail last week that he would be leaving the company, according to a report in the News and Observer of Raleigh.
