Fremont pastor ready to return to ministry after liver transplant
FREMONT, NE—The Rev. Charlie Axness sat throughout one sermon he preached at First Lutheran Church.
After that, the Fremont man was taken by car to an Omaha hospital.
It happened the first week in January and was yet another chapter in an ongoing battle of health problems for the church’s senior pastor. But these days, Axness looks forward to returning to his service at the local church this summer. As a liver transplant recipient, he anticipates much better health.
“I look forward to getting back into ministry full time,” said Axness, while seated at his dining room table. “All this rest and relaxation sounds like a good deal in the beginning, but that kind of feeling soon fades away and you’re in the reality of looking at four walls.”
