Foundation scientific director to speak about Alpha-1 and COPD at Florida "Pulmonary WinterCourse"
Alpha-1 Foundation Scientific Director Adam Wanner will be a featured speaker at the Florida Pulmonary WinterCourse Feb. 12-14.
The WinterCourse program presents updates, new developments and techniques in the diagnosis and management of respiratory problems. Joint sponsors are the University of Florida College of Medicine and the American Lung Association of Florida.
The course will lead off with discussions on causes, controversies and treatments for Pulmonary Hypertension and case studies in sleep and infectious disease.
The second day, Jeffrey Garland, MD, assistant professor at the Mayo Clinic Florida, will discuss “Obstructive and Restrictive Lung Disease,” focusing on the rationale for early transplant referral, COPD diagnosis and treatment, and home treatments options for COPD patients.
Wanner, who is also Joseph Weintraub Professor of Medicine, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will talk about “COPD Associated with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.”
The session will finish with discussions on extreme medicine, critical care and unusual sites including third world countries and Iraq. Pleural diseases will also be discussed as well as management of pneumothorax, pulmonary consequences of congenital heart disease, and more.
The event will be held at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Conference Center, Lake Buena Vista, FL.
