Foundation honors New York City Alpha-1 Swim Team

NEW YORK, NY—The New York City Alpha-1 Swim Team was publicly honored at an awareness and fundraising reception for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (CODP) Oct. 2.

Steve Bookbinder and Ed Mikell received their awards during a reception dinner that honored Ted and Grace Anne Dorney Koppel for their support of COPD awareness, research and education.

John Walsh, President of the COPD Foundation and President and CEO of the Alpha-1 Foundation, presented the award.

Bookbinder, along with four other business executives from the New York City area, swam the English Channel in August, winning media coverage on both sides of the Atlantic and raising funds for Alpha-1 research. Mikell, who has two grandchildren with Alpha-1, created a website donation page that has helped to raise over $11,000.
