Foundation praises NIH and FDA for joint effort to speed new therapies to public
MIAMI – The Alpha-1 Foundation today praised a new federal collaborative effort to accelerate the development of innovative medical treatments and more effectively evaluate new products to make them available to the public.
National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis Collins, MD, PhD, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, MD, recently announced they would co-chair a Joint Leadership Council to spearhead faster therapy development.
“We were delighted that the FDA and NIH are working together more closely than ever to bridge the gap between promising research and the development of new therapies,” said Alpha-1 Foundation president and CEO John Walsh. “Accelerating the development of new therapies for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency is a central goal of the Alpha-1 Foundation.”
