Foundation expects Alpha-1 community support to be stable despite termination of merger agreement between CSL, Talecris
MIAMI, FL – The Alpha-1 Foundation expects that support for the Alpha-1 community will remain stable despite the decision by CSL Ltd. and Talecris Biotherapeutics to end their merger agreement, announced in 2008, under which CSL agreed to acquire Talecris for $3.1 billion.
The acquisition by CSL would have combined the plasma products businesses of CSL and Talecris, both manufacturers of augmentation therapies for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. CSL is the manufacturer of Zemaira, Talecris of Prolastin.
“We have been assured by both CSL and Talecris that their ongoing support of the Alpha-1 community will continue as it has over the years,” said John Walsh, President & CEO of the Alpha-1 Foundation
