Florida COPD coalition kicks off first annual COPD community workshop series
MIAMI—COPDers, get ready for the busy months of October and November. Florida’s COPD Coalition has three outreach programs planned, in Fort Lauderdale, St. Petersburg and Tallahassee.
The burden of COPD in Florida is a great one. This Thursday, Oct. 21, in Ft. Lauderdale, the Closing the Gap on Health Care Disparities Program forum will be hosted by Florida State Senator Eleanor Sobel, the COPD Foundation, and Florida’s American Lung Association.
The COPD Coalition kicked off their first annual COPD community workshop series in St. Petersburg Monday and will hold the second in Tallahassee Nov. 17, which is both COPD and Alpha-1 Awareness Day internationally. These workshops provide lung health professionals with targeted education, give those with COPD the opportunity to learn more about their condition, and provide a platform to interact with peers and build long- lasting relationships.
Workshop are split into two parts, with the first half of the day targeted to lung health professionals, and the afternoon for patients with COPD. Lung health professionals will learn the guidelines to provide those with COPD with quality care, standards for diagnosing COPD, and the ability to brainstorm and collaborate with other lung health professionals on ways to improve better care in their community.
COPDers will have the opportunity to learn about advice for healthy living, and gain knowledge and access the best COPD research updates and information.
