Cross-country bike ride to raise awareness for lung disease

Mike Rys is not your average 53-year-old. This New Yorker will ride his bike any distance to help save lives.

Rys will peddle over 3,300 miles in the annual Big Ride Across America. Beginning June 21, he will ride from Seattle, WA, to Washington, DC, in seven weeks to raise funds and awareness for the American Lung Association.

A co-worker who lost her father to lung disease asked Rhys to carry a photo of her dad with him during his cross-country journey. Rys was touched by the request, and is offering to do the same for others who have lost loved ones to lung disease. He will carry their photos along with him on his expedition and use them as inspiration for the long haul.

You can send a picture to Rhys via email at mikerys1@aol.com .

Rys hopes to raise $6,000 for the American Lung Association to help make a difference for those who are affected with chronic lung diseases.
