CDC reports 642 cases of swine flu in US, issues daily guidance for controlling spread of flu
ATLANTA, GA—The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing daily updates on the Swine Flu Virus.
So far there have been 642 confirmed cases in the United States, with two deaths, both in Texas. This is far below the number of deaths typically reported each year from all cases of influenza, which is usually listed as the cause of 36,000 deaths in the United States.
The CDC says it is not possible to predict whether the Swine Flu will become a more severe or widespread problem. The CDC is no longer recommending that schools close after a case of Swine Flu is confirmed among its students or employees.
The CDC has also set up a toll-free Swine Flu Hotline to answer questions from the public: 1-800-CDC-INFO.
