Canadian regulators approve Prolastin C for infusion
Triangle Business Journal
Canadian regulators have granted approval to Talecris Pharmaceuticals to sell a new version of its protein therapy Prolastin, the North Carolina-based company announced Wednesday.
The new product, called Prolastin-C, is a more concentrated formulation of Prolastin, which has been on the market for two decades. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Prolastin-C for sale in October.
Prolastin, which is delivered via a plasma infusion, helps patients who have alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency, a condition that can lead to emphysema. The more concentrated Prolastin-C can halve the time required to administer the protein therapy.
