Alpha Karen Erickson tells about her diagnosis, terrifying prognosis, and how she got involved with the Alpha-1 community
California Alpha Karen Erickson is profiled in the current issue of ATS PAR News, the newsletter of the American Thoracic Society’s Patient Advisory Roundtable.
She tells her about her diagnosis with Alpha-1 at the age of 35, and the terrifying—and inaccurate—prognosis she was given:
“Your body is basically eating your own lungs. There is no cure for the condition. With treatment though, you will be able to continue for a few years.”
