Baxter resumes distribution of Aralast NP for Alpha-1 infusions, with new ancillaries included
Baxter has resumed distribution of Aralast NP, its augmentation therapy for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, and the box now includes the ancillaries that accompanied the product prior to the introduction of BaxJect II Hi-Flow.
The BaxJect device is no longer distributed because of some reports of particles in the reconstituted Aralast NP after mixing for infusion. Baxter said no safety issues are involved, and there was no increase in either severity or nature of adverse events being reported by customers using Aralast NP.
Baxter said each package of Aralast NP now includes the following ancillary devices:
- A double-ended sterile transfer needle to reconstitute the product
- A sterile Whatman 20-micron filter spike to remove the reconstituted product from the vial prior to pooling
Baxter exmphasized that Aralast NP remains safe and should be used with the reconstitution and transfer devices provided in the package.
Customers should contact Baxter’s customer service unit (1-800-423-2090) if there are further questions.
