Avoiding infectious diseases, talking to families about Alpha-1, and research updates highlight Sept. 12 Boston Education Day

BOSTON – Camille Kotton, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital will discuss “Infectious Diseases: What Are They and How Do You Avoid Them?” at the upcoming Boston Education Day Saturday, Sept. 12.

Dawn McGee, MS, CGC of the Alpha-1 Association’s Genetic Counseling Center, will explain how to discuss Alpha-1 with family members.

Terry Flotte, MD, Professor and Dean, School of Medicine, Provost and Executive Deputy Chancellor, University of Massachusetts Worchester, will provide an Alpha-1 Foundation update and a research update.

Peg Lougee, AS Jordan Hospital, Plymouth, MA will discuss an Alpha-1 Foundation Research Project, and an Alpha-1 Association update will be provided by Ed Brailey, Vice Chair, Alpha-1 Association.

Fredric Gordon, MD, Lahey Clinic Medical Center, will talk about “Alpha-1 Liver Disease,” and John Beamis, MD, also of Lahey, about “Alpha-1 Lung Disease and Bronchiectasis.”

Ann Webster, PhD, Director, Benson-Henry Institute for Body Medicine at Mass General, will speak on “Mind/Body Medicine: How Can This Help Me?” and Darrell Kotton, MD, Boston University School of Medicine, will close with “Stem Cell/Gene Therapy Research.”

The event will be held at the Marriott Boston Burlington, One Burlington Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01803. A free patient dinner sponsored by AlphaNet, Baxter BioTherapeutics, CSL Behring, and Talecris Biotherapeutics, will be held at 5:30 pm at the hotel.
