American, European leaders discuss cooperation on new therapies for rare diseases.
Leaders in the rare diseases communities in the United States and Europe recently gathered for a video conference in Paris and Bethesda, MD, to examine some of the critical issues facing people with rare diseases. Improving diagnosis, facilitating research and development of rare disease therapies and improving access to those therapies were among the main topics discussed.
Stephen Groft, PharmD, Director, Office of Rare Disorders, US National Institutes of Health, led the discussion.
It was one of a series of Key Issues Dialogues sponsored by CSL Behring to explore issues of importance to patients, caregivers and healthcare providers.
The video conference was timed to coincide with Rare Disease Day, Feb. 28.
