Transplant Recipients in New Zealand Walk for Thanks

A group of organ donation recipients took part in the “Around the Mountain Relay”, a 150km walk in Taranaki, to say thanks to the donors and their families who helped give them another chance at life.

Nine heart and lung recipients make up the team of walkers, who are cleverly named the “Beaters and Breathers”. Of the nine members, two suffer from Alpha-1.

Through sponsorship, the team has raised about $10,000 for Hearty Towers, the recuperation center for heart and lung transplant patients in Auckland.
