Alpha One Foundation of Ireland celebrates Chopin's life; composer probably had Alpha-1

In honor of its tenth anniversary, the Alpha One Foundation of Ireland is giving the Alpha One Foundation Chopin Bursary to one lucky student in his/her last year of a music degree.

The selected students from Trinity College Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology, University College Dublin and Maynooth University will each perform a piece composed by Frederic Chopin.

Some experts believe that Chopin had Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. He suffered from chronic respiratory disease throughout his short life. The Foundation “wishes to celebrate his life” and raise awareness about Alpha-1.

This event will take place in the residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Andrew Montague. Expected guests include representatives from the Polish and French embassies.
