WESLEY CHAPEL – It started in the shower, with just a little shortness of breath. Bob Landes brushed it off, until that night in 1990 he woke up gasping. An ambulance rushed him to the emergency room.
Doctors told him he had emphysema, asthma or both and put him on oxygen and an inhaler.
Six months and a simple blood test later, Landes would learn that he has an obscure genetic disorder that was slowly damaging his lungs, fueled by Landes’ smoking at least a pack a day of Marlboro 100’s.
