Alpha Advocate Defies Weather, Completes Ironman

John Kelley of Marshfield, MA crossed the finish line at the Ironman World Championship on Oct. 13 in Kailua Bay, Hawaii with a time of 13:59:29.

Kelley battled stifling heat, excessive wind and rough seas on Saturday, but finished while reaching his personal goal—raising awareness for Alpha-1.

His individual results are as follows:
Swim: 1:32:39
Bike: 7:25:29
Run: 4:49:21

To see a video of Kelley crossing the finish line, go to Track an Athlete, enter Bib #752, and then click on the yellow bar that says “WATCH ME FINISH.” John is a couple of minutes into the video, right after the camera flashes to the time clock reading: 13:59:29. His wife Krisann joins him at the end of the Ironman and runs in with him, holding his hand. (You will need Windows Media Player or equivalent installed on your computer to view the clip.)

Kelley used the Ironman event to raise awareness for Alpha-1. His son, now 12 and healthy, was diagnosed with Alpha-1 at birth. Check out the article we featured in July.
