More than 100 Alphas, family and supporters raise funds and awareness at first annual Alpha-1 Walk Miami
The Alpha-1 Foundation hosted its first annual “Alpha-1 5k Walk Miami” Sunday at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, Florida.
More than 100 Alphas, friends and family, community leaders, and Alpha-1 researchers and clinicians attended. The weather cooperated beautifully, with mild temperatures and a breeze off the water cooling the walkers.

Patty Tew, an Alpha-1 support group leader from Orlando, FL, was the leading fundraiser for the event, which raised more than $12,000 for the Foundation’s research programs.
The program featured a yoga breathing workshop and a demonstration of “acro yoga”—combining yoga with acrobatics.
Eddie Balzola, well known in the Miami area for his work with the famed local band Oriente, performed two sets for the crowd.
