Alpha-1 Foundation says Grifols acquisition of Talecris could broaden worldwide access to augmentation, speed aerosol therapy development
MIAMI – The agreement by Grifols of Spain to acquire Talecris Biotherapeutics could combine the companies’ complementary infrastructures to expand services to the Alpha-1 community, broaden access to augmentation therapy worldwide, and speed aerosol therapy, John W. Walsh, President, CEO and co-founder of the Foundation, said today.
Walsh said the Alpha-1 community has built a longstanding relationship with Talecris based on trust and respect, extending back to the original FDA licensing of Prolastin as the first augmentation therapy for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency in 1988. “We hope to continue and expand our long tradition of collaboration with industry partners if this acquisition is approved by regulatory authorities and consummated.”
