Alpha-1 Foundation, COPD Foundation applaud Obama’s nomination of Collins, “a longtime friend of the Alpha-1 and COPD communities,” as new NIH director
MIAMI, FL – The Alpha-1 Foundation and COPD Foundation have expressed their support for the nomination of Francis Collins, MD, PhD, as the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Collins, former director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, led the Institute and an international team which completed the sequence of the human genome. President Barack Obama announced the nomination Wednesday.
“We applaud the president’s nomination and congratulate Dr. Collins,” said John Walsh, President & CEO of the Alpha-1 Foundation and also President of the COPD Foundation. “We consider him a longtime friend of both the Alpha-1 and COPD communities and support his rapid confirmation to the director’s position.”
