Alpha-1 Foundation appoints new Board members

The Alpha-1 Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of three new members to our Board of Directors: Jeanine M. D’Armiento, MD, PhD, Shane Fitch and Martin R. Zamora, MD. Greg Hules, a former Board Chair, leaves the Board July 1 due to the 10-year term limit for Foundation directors.
Jeanine M. D’Armiento, MD, PhD
Jeanine M. D’Armiento, from New York City, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Columbia University. She is also the Director for the Center for LAM and Rare Lung Diseases at Columbia. Her research interests are broad, spanning COPD, LAM, asthma and smoke injury.

Shane Fitch, from Cadiz Spain, has worked for the last 12 years in the Spanish Alfa-1 Association for patients, building a strong network of contacts.

She actively participates in strategic working groups, projects and events for many organizations and is currently establishing a Foundation for respiratory diseases for the Lovexair project.

Martin R. Zamora, of Denver, CO, is a Professor of Medicine for the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado at Denver School of Medicine.

He is also the Medical Director of Lung Transplantation at the University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center and has been involved for many years with Alpha-1 Foundation Education Days, both locally and nationally. His research interests include mechanisms of transplant rejection and the role of viral infections in lung transplant outcomes; and the prevention and management of cytomegalovirus infection following solid organ transplantation.
The Board appointments take effect July 1.
