The awards will fund new research projects, adding to the Foundation’s extensive current research portfolio. The goal of all Foundation-funded research is eventually to result in the improved health of those with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
Since 1995, the Alpha-1 Foundation has invested $35 million to support AAT research and programs in nearly 70 institutions in North America and Europe.
The peer-reviewed grants program supports basic science and clinical research, improved understanding of the pathogenesis of the clinical manifestations of Alpha-1, the development and testing of treatments for the disease, bioethics and social research, and the promotion of education of members of the medical community regarding Alpha-1.
