Alpha-1 Education Day in Raleigh, NC, Sept. 20

RALEIGH, NC—Miriam O’Day, Senior Director of Public Policy for the Alpha-1 Foundation and the Alpha-1 Association, will discuss bills in Congress to increase lifetime caps on health insurance at the Alpha-1 Education Day Sept. 20.

O’Day will also recap the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, pulmonary rehab becoming a permanent Medicare benefit, and the new DOT airline oxygen ruling, all major legislative achievements this year.

James Donohue, MD, University of North Carolina, will talk about the basics of Alpha-1 lung and liver disorders.

Charlie Strange, MD, Director of the Alpha-1 Foundation Research Registry at the Medical University of South Carolina, will give an update on clinical trials and the Research Registry.

Dawn McGee, the Alpha-1 Association’s genetic counselor at the Medical University of South Carolina, will discuss her work.

Marlene Erven, Executive Director of the Alpha-1 Association, will give an update on the Association and John Walsh, President and CEO of the Alpha-1 Foundation, will give a Foundation update.

The Education Day will be held at the Marriott Raleigh Crabtree Valley.

The Education Day is supported by unrestricted grants from AlphaNet, Baxter, Centric Health Resources, CSL Behring and Talecris Biotherapeutics.
