Alpha-1 Awareness Month is here -- some ways to help us raise awareness throughout the month of November!

MIAMI, FL – Starting today, people across the United States are sharing their stories and creating awareness of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency in honor of Alpha-1 Awareness Month.

Alpha-1 is the most important known genetic cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It affects at least 100,000 people nationwide, but fewer than 10 percent of those living with it have been properly diagnosed.

There are many ways you can help us raise awareness of Alpha-1 this month.

The Foundation created a new video on the importance of joining the Alpha-1 Research Registry, and encourages you to share it with your family and friends to increase Alpha-1 awareness and research efforts.

We’ll run online articles about events that are taking place in November, like the Step Forward for Alpha-1 walk in Jupiter, FL on Saturday, Nov. 12.

And we’ll suggest tips that can help you get a news story in your local news media.

Every day in November, we’ll post an “Alpha-1 Fact” on Facebook and Twitter. We encourage our more than 1,300 Facebook Friends and more than 300 Twitter followers to share those updates with their friends.

Find us on Facebook and ask us how to get one of our “Ask me about Alpha-1” awareness buttons too!
