AARC names Grace Anne Dorney Koppel as keynote speaker for 2011 congress in Tampa, FL

The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) announced Grace Anne Dorney Koppel, as their 2011 Keynote Speaker at the AARC Congress in Tampa on Nov. 5

Koppel was diagnosed with COPD in 2001. Doctors told her that she may only have another few years to live – an unacceptable answer for Koppel.

But with the help of a pulmonary rehabilitation program and a daily exercise schedule, she was able to increase her lung capacity from 26 percent then to 60. She said that while the disease is incurable, it is treatable and manageable. Now, 10 years later, she’s still going strong.

She’s an attorney in private practice in Potomac, MD, and business manager for her husband, former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel. She’s also a national advocate for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s Learn More Breathe Better Campaign, which raises awareness about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Koppel will share her insights into COPD and pulmonary rehabilitation with Congress goers during the opening ceremonies in Tampa on Nov. 5, and attendees are sure to walk away with a new appreciation not only of how pulmonary rehab can help COPD patients, but how COPD patients can make the most of the rehabilitation they receive.
