"10 Steps Program" offers continuing education to physicians, healthcare providers on assessing and managing COPD
The online “10 Steps Program,” offering continued education of physicians and healthcare providers in treating COPD, has just launched.
COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, has been diagnosed in some 12 million Americans and is believed to affect another 12 million who don’t know they have the condition.
Many of those with Alpha-1 Antitripsin Deficiency are first diagnosed with COPD, an umbrella term that includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
The program is a series of videos outlining 10 steps designed to guide physicians and healthcare providers on how to better manage COPD.
The English version of the program is available now. The Spanish translation of the “10 Steps Program” is planned to launch later in February.
The program was developed in collaboration with MedscapeCME and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. The sponsors are the COPD Foundation, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Medscape, LLC.
Involved in developing the program were Byron M. Thomashow, MD, board chair of the COPD Foundation; James D. Crapo, MD, professor of medicine, National Jewish Health, Denver, CO; Stephen I. Rennard, MD, professor of internal medicine, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha; Bartolome R. Celli, MD, professor of medicine, Harvard University, Boston; and Patricia A. Jellen, MSN, RN, Center for Chest Disease, New York Presbyterian Hospital.
