Education Days
The Alpha-1/COPD Educations have been accredited by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for CRCE continuing education credits.
The Education Days are divided into two separate areas of concentration. There are Alpha-1 only Education Days, and COPD/Alpha-1 Education Days. The Alpha-1 only days address issues and topics specific to Alpha-1 and the COPD/Alpha-1 days are geared to both populations. The goal of course is to increase the awareness levels in the COPD population on the importance of testing for Alpha-1.
The Education Days are generally one-day meetings that include exhibit displays of the various programs of the Foundation (Alpha-1 Research Registry, Alpha-1 DNA & Tissue Bank, Genetic Modifiers of Alpha-1 Study) as well as information about available therapies, and durable medical equipment companies. The meetings include presentations by experts in Alpha-1 liver and lung disease, COPD leaders in the field, respiratory therapists to discuss the value of pulmonary rehabilitation, and other topics to make the participants and family members more aware of medication management, clinical trials and ways to improve the activities of daily living for the diagnosed individuals. There is also the opportunity for patients to sign up for participation in research studies.
